So, I've had a blog since 2006. It was pretty much unattended until I started graduate school and then guess what? We were required to post reflections on a blog. So that gave me a purpose to blog. I know that today's kids live out loud. They Tweet and Facebook to let everyone know their current status. I haven't ever really felt that there was an audience for me to blog or in social media. For that matter, I never was one to spend extended periods of time on the phone. Therefore, I haven't really found a personal need for blogging. However, I have seen the impact it can have in the classroom. It is a great place for teachers to engage students in conversations while teaching them how to use Web 2.0 tools. Students that may not feel comfortable sharing their thoughts in a classroom often find that they can contribute online.
Here's my Voki!
Your Voki looks great! I agree that students can use this help them find their voice. Many are already blogging to let someone hear them. This is a great classroom tool for communication.
ReplyDeleteYou sound just like me. Actually, I pretty much hate talking on the phone...so my sentiments about blogging are similar to your's. Now there are times when I am chatting/blogging with my fellow professionals that I do enjoy the chatting but just to post my thoughts or make small talk is just not my style.
ReplyDeleteI blog on my school blog to keep the lines of communication open with the kids and the parents. Plus I can reach about 500 kids with only a single blog!!! I would call that productive!
If I were in the classroom I think I would have more of a purpose. We started a blog on our instructional technology site but I don't do a very good job of updating it. I hope I can work on that for the upcoming school year.
